Three Trails boutique hotel opens in Elkin

Three Trails Hotel owner Stephen Hetherington welcomes attendees to the property during a ribbon-cutting ceremony held Oct. 27.

The Three Trails boutique hotel officially opened its doors with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house on October 27. The former Yadkin Valley Bank building, located at 101 W. Main St. in Elkin, has been renovated and converted into a 14-unit hotel. Units at Three Trails range from one-bedroom studios to three-bedroom studios. Each rental unit includes a kitchen, living room and bedrooms.

“It’s basically like a home away from home,” said owner Stephen Hetherington.

Ribbon cutting guests enjoyed a variety of Liberty Catering Company snacks and had the chance to tour several of Three Trails’ venues as well as its rooftop terrace.

Hetherington said they were thrilled to be in Elkin and were grateful for the positive response from the community.

“The moment we got here, we were just welcomed and it’s so easy to work on a project when you’re welcomed,” Hetherington said.

“I just want to say thank you and hope you enjoy the property today and for many more days and nights,” he told the crowd gathered for the ribbon cutting.

The hotel takes its name from the fact that Elkin is the convergence of three trails, the NC Mountains to Sea Trail, the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail, and the Yadkin River Paddle Trail. Hetherington said the project’s architect came up with the name and it stuck.

Three Trails rooms are available for rent on VRBO and Air BnB.
