Rolando Village Archives – BikinginLA

Unbelievable.

Yet another person was killed while riding his bike through the mean streets of Southern California.

And again, a heartless coward fled the scene.

According to San Diego Union-Tribunean 82-year-old man was riding in the bike path on the 4400 block from College Ave near Adelaide Ave in the Rolando Village neighborhood of San Diego when he was run over by a driver around 2:55 p.m.

The victim, who has not been publicly identified, was struck from behind when the driver made a dangerous move to the rightt, hitting his bike with the right front of his huge Cadillac SUV.

He was taken to a nearby hospital with multiple injuries and died shortly after arriving.

At his age, he deserved better.

The 52-year-old driver fled the scene but was arrested on suspicion of hit and run when she returned an hour later.

Anyone with information is urged to call 858/495-7800, or San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888/580-8477.

This is at least the 61st cycling death in Southern California this year, and the ninth I know of in San Diego County, including five this month.

Twenty of those deaths were caused by fleeing drivers.

My deepest condolences and prayers for the victim and all his loved ones.
