Raid recovers 36 kg of drugs at Tripura hotel
Guwahati, Aug 1: Tripura Police raided a hotel in Sepahijala district of the state on Monday based on secret information. The investigation resulted in the recovery of approximately 36 kg of suspected marijuana from room no. 204 and 206 from Sumiya Hotel around 2am to midnight. The drugs were caught in the possession of Munir Hussain, Saiful Basa, Sahida Khatun, Anowar Hussain and Rakesh Devnath. Reports say the five suspects are from Subapur village in Sepahijala district and further investigation is being carried out by the police.
Due to the substantial increase in the issue of drug trafficking, a meeting was chaired on July 23 by the DGP of Tripura VS Yadav with senior officials and DGPs from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Sikkim to further discuss the major security challenge and formulate ways to curb the problems related to drug and mind-altering substance trafficking in the North Eastern States.
Around 6,761 kg of drugs were destroyed in Guwahati on Saturday in the virtual presence of Union Minister Amit Shah during the National Conference on Drug Trafficking and National Security organized by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Chandīgarh. During the conference, more than 30,000 kg of drugs were burned and disposed of by different NCB teams in Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati and Kolkata.
