Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains on Monday visited High Smart Government School, Desumajra, Kharar to observe its functioning.

He interacted with students and teachers to inquire about infrastructure gaps and issues they face.

The teachers informed him of the overcrowding problem due to which the school was closed for several days during the monsoon season.

They also raised the issue of drinking water.

Bains also noted the lack of furniture as a few students sat on the floor mats in some classrooms. He assured school staff that the issues would be resolved as soon as possible.

On July 4, Chandigarh Tribune first highlighted, “Kharar smart school mired in slush”. The state-run High Smart School, Desumajra, in Kharar had been closed for four days as waterlogging from rainwater and sewage disposal ravaged the school complex. As a result, no classes could take place at the school, affecting nearly 1,000 school children.

Minister Anmol Gagan Mann represents Kharar Assembly Seat.
