Town police on Tuesday identified two of the four people involved in the shooting at a student in Kakowal village.

The preliminary police investigation indicated that four young people, all suspected of being students of GGN Khalsa College here, were involved in gunfire outside the home of Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Bawa settlement. in Kakowal here.

The reason for the gun attack is said to be a bit tiff during the college union elections.

Police said two of the four defendants have been identified as New Madhopuri resident Vishu Kainth and Amarjot Chauhan, while the other defendants have yet to be identified.

A case under Articles 307, 506, 34 and 120-B of the IPC and Articles 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Weapons Act was registered at the Basti Jodhewal police station here last night.

In his statement to police, Gurpreet Singh, a BA-III student at GGN Khalsa College, said he was running for the post of college union president. But there was some uproar and one of the defendants Amarjot Chauhan was declared president, while he (Gurpreet) was elected as vice president. “Several shots were fired by the assailants, who had masked their faces and I could not identify any of them,” he said.

Basti Jodhewal Police Station SHO Vijay Kumar said police teams had been formed to arrest the defendants and raids were underway on their possible hiding places.
