Home to bipartite infrastructure agreement a major victory for the Tennessees

The United States House of Representatives passed President Biden’s bipartisan infrastructure agreement, paving the way for our nation’s largest infrastructure investment in a generation. This is a major victory for Tennessee and underscores the great job Democrats nationwide and state can do. Jobs created, roads repaired and high speed Internet provided to rural communities will change lives. Despite the benefits this legislation has for everyone in our state, it is unfortunate that no Republican in Tennessee has voted to give this support to the people they have chosen to represent. Tennessee Democrats, however, will continue to improve the lives of our communities everywhere. Based on the funding formula alone, the state of Tennessee would expect to receive:

  • $ 5.8 billion for road improvements and $ 302 million for bridge replacement and repair over five years.
  • $ 630 million over five years to improve public transportation options across the state.
  • A minimum of $ 100 million to help provide statewide broadband coverage, including access to at least 402,000 Tennessees who currently lack it. 2,009,000 or 30% of Tennessee residents will also be eligible for Connectivity Affordability, which will help low-income families afford Internet access.
  • $ 697 million over five years to improve water infrastructure statewide and make clean, safe drinking water a right in all communities.
  • $ 300 million over five years to improve Tennessee airports.
  • Millions of dollars to prevent forest fires, improve cybersecurity and develop a charging network for electric vehicles
