There is always madness in love, but there is always reason in madness. In a bizarre incident, villagers in Bihar arrested an electrician who used to cut off the village power supply to meet his girlfriend under cover of darkness.

Residents of Ganeshpur village in Purnia district in East Bihar started witnessing frequent power cuts for two to three hours at a particular time in the evening. Locals found this ironic as nearby villages remained illuminated during this time interval. After carefully probing the cause, the villagers were outraged to find that the electrician cut off the village’s power supply to meet his girlfriend in the dark.

To further substantiate the incident, the villagers worked on a plan to catch the accused in the act. When the village power supply cut off the next time, the villagers gathered and reached the local government school where they caught the couple.

Witnesses said the electrician was beaten before being tonsured and paraded through the streets as punishment. The man told the villagers that he would turn off the electricity whenever he wanted to meet his girlfriend.

The villagers, however, married them off.

“The man was married to the girl in the presence of the Sarpanch and other members of the village council,” villager Marar Ram Murmu told local media on Thursday.

Police said they have not received any complaints so far. “We learned about the incident, but we will act once we receive a complaint,” local police station official Vikas Kumar Azad said.
