A man, identified as Rajinder Singh, was killed on Thursday by gunmen in Patha Pheruman village under Beas police station. Police have indicted about eight people for murder.

Among the defendants was Baljit Singh, a resident of Cheema Bath village, while his accomplices were yet to be identified.

Lovepreet Singh, son of the victim, told police that around 9 p.m. Wednesday, he and his parents were present at the house when Baljit Singh came to the house. He said his father Rajinder objected and asked him to come during the day. He said that the accused became furious and left at that time.

He said that around 11 p.m., Baljit Singh and seven unidentified accomplices broke into the house. They were all armed with sharp and blunt weapons. After entering the house, they started beating her father and left him dead on the spot.

A relative of the victim said Lovepreet’s cousin learned how to fix bikes at Baljit Singh’s workshop. He said that Baljit Singh used to drop him at his house in the evening and enter the house. Since there were girls in the house, Rajinder objected to him entering the house. —
